What Is the CDR Valve?
CDR stands for Crankcase Depression Regulator. It's a small valve mounted on the back of the intake manifold that manages pressure inside the engine's crankcase and separates oil mist from the air before it's recirculated into the intake. In plain terms: it keeps engine oil out of places it shouldn't be.
What Happens When It Fails
When the CDR valve wears out or clogs, it stops doing its job properly. Oil mist starts getting pulled into the intake manifold instead of being filtered out. Over time, this leads to:
- Increased oil consumption
- Oil buildup coating the intake manifold and air cleaner

It's simple: pull off the air cleaner assembly and look at the air cleaner hold-down bolt and the inside of the intake. If you see an oily film or residue, your CDR valve is likely due for replacement.
