Oil Change Procedure

  11. Install the replacement drain plug and seal.
  12. Add the initial quantity of fresh engine oil.
  13. Start the engine briefly and confirm the oil-pressure warning turns off.
  14. Inspect the filter and drain plug for leaks.
  15. Switch off the engine and wait several minutes.
  16. Check the oil level and add oil gradually as required.
  17. Reinstall the lower engine cover.
  18. Reset the maintenance reminder.

Avoid a Double-Gasket Leak

When removing the old filter, ensure its rubber gasket has not remained attached to the engine. Installing a new filter over the old gasket can cause a sudden and severe oil leak.

Lubricate the new gasket lightly and tighten the filter according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Should All Five Quarts Be Added?

Not automatically. Oil capacity varies according to the engine code and vehicle configuration.

Add oil gradually and check the level after briefly running the engine. Overfilling can cause aeration, increased crankcase pressure, leakage, or emissions-system damage.
